Get to know the owner: Denise Andreini

Born and raised in Arroyo Grande, I graduated from Arroyo Grande High School and continued my education at Cal Poly SLO- with a degree in Physical fitness and a minor in psychology.

After graduating I moved to the bay area, where I was the COO of four fitness facilities and ran my office out of Oracle Corporate Fitness center. While living in the Bay area I found myself frequenting the many coffeehouses located in the city. I loved the social feel to the European Style coffeehouses, I didn’t feel rushed and I could enjoy my time with friends, and it was a place I could bring my work.

In 1992 I became pregnant and decided that it was time to move back to Arroyo Grande. I wanted to be near my family and raise my triplets in my amazing home town, yes that’s right, I was pregnant with TRIPLETS!

Upon returning to AG, I realized there were no coffeehouses, at that time there wasn’t even a Starbucks. I thought hard about opening a Coffeehouse, but wasn’t sure where, and with the encouragement from Howard Mankins to open one in his historical 100 year old building I decided the Village of Arroyo Grande was perfect place for a European Café and took him up on his offer. Call me crazy, I began the renovation of this building and the beginning of Café Andreini with triplets in tow.

We opened our doors in the fall of 1996, the first European style coffee house in Arroyo Grande. The Café quickly became the hot spot for locals and visitors alike. I wanted everyone to feel welcome, we have people from walks of life who come into the Café on a regular basis, from Farmers, Pastors and Politicians to Moms, students and families. It was important for me that everyone felt welcomed, and that is still a mentality that I maintain here at the Café.

In celebrating 20 years last fall, there has been laughter, tears, a flood and evolving changes to the Café, including a fourth child! I have learned a lot, given back to the community and hosted events. I am looking forward to the next 20+ years, and with the NEW endeavor of renting out the Café it will create a whole new journey for us!  Many new things will be introduced at the Café in 2017! OK, ok I’ll give you the inside scoop! As you know last fall we started having beer and local wine on tap as well as Live music on Friday nights, and we are looking to bring in Art Bar, Singles night, Date night, Trivia night and many more exciting things ahead!

I would like to thank all of my regulars, you know who you are, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You make Café Andreini Great!
